Reflexology has been used for centuries, it is thought to have been originally developed by the ancient Egyptians and is one of the most popular types of complementary therapy in use today.
Having a reflexology treatment is a deeply relaxing and soothing experience, calming the nervous system, releasing held tension and increasing both circulation and lymphatic flow. This treatment is suitable for all ages.
A reflexologist will use both gentle held pressure and massage techniques on ‘reflex’ points on the feet. These points relate to different areas of the body and combine to reflect the body as a whole, the left side of the body on the left foot, and the right side on the right foot. For example, there are reflex points on the left big toe that correspond to the left side of the head, or around the ball of the right foot which corresponds to the right lung.
At the start of a session the reflexologist will gently assess all the reflex points to get a sense of a client’s general state of health. Then they will work systematically to help the areas they have identified that need the most care. This is an enormously relaxing process.
Reflexology treatment aims to improve the healthy functioning of the body, relax the mind and soothe the spirit as it gently stimulates the bodies self-healing mechanism.
